The Children’s Area resources and services are designed for children (birth through 12 years of age).
- Parents and caretakers are invited to accompany their children to the Children’s Area to participate actively in reading, programs, and the selection and use of library materials.
- The use of the facility and resources of the Children’s Area are for children and teens through 17 years of age.
- To provide a fun and safe environment for children, adults (18 and over) who are not accompanied by a child, are to use the Children’s Area only for the purpose of retrieving materials for check out or to make arrangements to pull materials for research to be used in other areas of the library.

A variety of children's programs exist (storytimes, literary themed craft and event programs, family book clubs, etc.), and all are designed to introduce children to the life-long love of reading.
- To provide a programming atmosphere that allows maximum enjoyment by all patrons, age levels may be specified for many of the children's programs; parents and caregivers are encouraged to direct their children to age appropriate programs and events.
- The library requests that parents remain with their children during the program.
- Outreach programs are made available to the community based on staffing availability.
- Appointments must be made through the Collection and Programming Services Manager.
Only children 12 and under may access the computers located in the Children's Wing.
- Children receive up to 4 hours on the computer. 2 Hour Limit as of June 2020, until further notice.
- Adults are blocked from these computers and may NOT use their child's card to login.
- Adults and children misusing the computers will be asked to log off the computer.
An unattended child is any young child apparently alone in the library for an extended period (in particular, if the child seems distressed or is disruptive).
- Children under 7 cannot be left alone.
- Children must be age 13 or older to watch a child under 7.
The play area equipment is designed for toddlers and preschoolers and may be improperly used by older children. Anyone misusing the equipment or acting in an unsafe fashion will be asked to leave the area.
Unsafe activity includes:
- Running
- Loud screaming and shouting
- Jumping and climbing on furniture and equipment
- Fighting, biting and hitting
The Teen Room is for teens ages 12-18 attending grades 6th-12th.
- Adults and/or children may actively browse for materials, briefly tour the space, and seek staff assistance.
- If adults and/or children are found to be lingering, they will be reminded of the age range for the space and required to relocate to an appropriate area of the library.
All patrons including teens must follow the Library Code of Conduct. The Teen Room has additional guidelines.
Teens not following rules will be
- given a warning and informed of the rule
- given a final warning and reminded of consequence
- if spoken to a third time the teen will need to leave the library for the day
Depending on the issue and cooperation with staff, teens may be required to leave sooner and/or lose libraryprivileges for longer. If only required to leave for the day, teens can come back the next day to try again. Teen Room rules:
- Respect the Library & Staff
- Library staff at the Teen desk are in charge of the Teen Room, but all Library staff have authority to enforce rules and should be respected.
- Use furniture appropriately. One person per chair. No sitting on tables.
- Clean up any trash/mess and push in your chair before leaving.
Respect each other
- No bullying, play fighting/running, shouting, inappropriate language/jokes, harassment or discrimination of any kind, excessive PDA (brief hugs and holding hands is fine and hands should remain visible).
Food is only permitted in the Teen Room when handed out by Teen staff
- All other food must be eaten at the Library café or in the courtyard.
- Drinks with lids are okay. No open cans in the Teen Room.
Computers
- Computers in the Teen Room are restricted to ages 12-18.
- No sharing cards.
- Computer use must be teen appropriate.
Noise/Volume
- No music/sound from electronics without headphones.
- Keep conversations (in person and on your phone) at conversational levels.
Library Cards
- Staff can look up your account by name & birth date.
- If you have a 3forMe card, no ID is needed for staff to give out your card number/account info.
- If you have a regular PPLC card, you must have ID (or show your student portal) for staff to give out your card number/account info.
Staff Only Spaces
- The Teen desk, work room, staff office, and back room are for staff only.
These rules are not exhaustive; any conduct which disrupts the library will be prohibited. To ensure that all of the users of the Largo Library may safely and freely use the library, there are expectations that patrons will behave in the manner that does not interfere with the mission of the library, the rights of others, damage the library building or property, or cause injury to others. Library patrons unwilling to modify unacceptable behavior will be asked to leave the premises. Police will be called when conduct is illegal, when a threat is posed to the library or individuals, or when an individual refuses to follow library polices or refuses to leave the library when requested to do so.
Teen, adult and family programs are featured regularly at the Largo Public Library.
- Programs are free and open to the public.
- Programs which compliment the Largo Public Library's mission and goals may be co-sponsored with local clubs, businesses or institutions at the discretion of the Library Director.
- The decision to co-sponsor programs will be based on the program's educational value, public interest, credentials of the presenter, previous working relationship with the organization and program presenter(s), and programming space availability.
Volunteers must be between the ages of 12-18 and in Middle or High School. This includes home schooled students. No exceptions will be made.
- Court/Legal mandated community service requests are NOT accepted.
- All volunteers are required to fill out a Library Teen Volunteer Application.
- An interview is required that will determine if the teen will be accepted to do volunteer work.
- At any time, it is at the staff's discretion to relieve a volunteer of their duties.
- Volunteers must sign in before and after each shift.
- A number of opportunities are available teens to volunteer at the library.
There are many options available for teens to volunteer at the library.
- Please apply online or stop by the Teen Room to pick up a volunteer application.
- A minimum of 20 hours is required to volunteer at the library.
- Ages 12-18 may apply (effective Oct. 1, 2018).
- Applications are accepted in April and August.

Detailed job descriptions:
- Program Help: We have many programs for adults, teens, and children. Volunteers may help with set up, craft instruction, puppet shows, and many other activities related to library programs.
- Shelving: Volunteers that choose shelving will most often be putting away books in either the Children's Department or the Teen Room. This is the most flexible volunteering job.
- Program Planning: A number of programs are presented at the library by teens for the younger children. This program planning group helps initiate ideas, create activities, and participates during the programs on the day they are scheduled. Note: Program Planning is not available during the summer months.
- Teen Library Council (TLC):
- This group that meets twice a month for 2 hours each meeting, discusses Teen Room policy, the young adult book collection, safety concerns, ideas for new programs, improvement to existing programs, and how the library can best meet the needs of our teen patrons.
- Note: TLC is limited to 14 members each year. TLC is not available during the summer months.
- Teen Readers' Advisory Board (not available during summer)
